DOUGLAS CHARLES MORRIS  by Mrs. G. Deraps (Bertha Morris)1967

Douglas Charles Morris was born in Plymouth, England in 1874. At the age of eighteen he came to Canada and settled on a homestead north of Russell.  It was here that he met and married Bertha Fingas.   Her parents came from the part of Germany where Martin Luther preached the oldest son of every family automatically went to the Germany army, so before that happened, the family moved to Canada, settling; in the Boulton area.  Here they found, not only religious freedom but a good life. Mrs. Morris' philosophy was, "Nothing worthwhile happens in a hurry, you have to work at it."

Mr. and Mrs. Morris' family consisted of three boys and one girl, Wilfred, Douglas Sidney and Bertha.

Wilfred Morris taught in high school in Winnipeg for a number of years, until March, 1966, when he died suddenly, trying to get out of his house after the very severe blizzard which had taken place the previous day. Wilfred leaves his wife, Olive, and one son, Donald.

Bertha Morris married Gordon Deraps and is now living in Sufkin, Texas. They have two girls and two boys: Jane, the eldest, is a radio technician; Marguerite, the youngest daughters won a $1,000 scholarship from the paper mills, where her father is employed. She is married to a naval man. Douglas, their eldest son, is a medical doctor married with two daughters and a son. After finishing his two years in Cancer research he will settle near Sufkin. Morris, the younger son, is going through University in the Dental School.

Bertha Morris Deraps, in submitting the history of the Morris family, gives great praise to the Russell School staff in educating the Morris family and sends greetings to old friends in Russell, from Texas.
