J. A. McKINNON FAMILY

    Jack McKinnon was born in Bruce County, Ontario in 1879, coming to Manitoba and settling in the Gladstone district in 1888.  In 1905 he married Jenetta McLaughlin of the Mayfield district, Neepawa and came to Russell in 1911.

    He bought grain for the United Grain Growers for 37 years. He served on the Russell school board for 20 years, during l1 years of this period he was secretary. He was a member of the session of Knox United Church for 27 years. He was a long-time sports promoter having a keen interest in hockey, baseball and curling.

The family consisted of five sons:

    Nelson, married Myrtle Svenson, four children Calvin, Jean, Adell, Merle;

    Donald served with the R.C.A. Married Evelyn Anning; four children: Wayne, Donna Jean, Lynne, Byng;

    Garfield served with the RCAF, married Janet Barge, two children: Marlene and Carol Joanne;

    Melvin (Pete) served with the R.C.A. S.C, married Peggy Flynn, two children Brenda Marie and Jim;

   Rainie, served with the R.C.A.F., married Alice Dunn, five children: Bill, Robert, Bruce, Shannon, Maureen.
