ADAM R. McINTYRE by Mrs. Lloyd Foster (Myrtle Davidson) 1967

Adam R. McIntyre came from Peel County in Ontario in 1883, first to ran a flour mill at Asessippi, then Millwood, prior to settling in Russell before the turn of the century. Mr. McIntyre, an outgoing man with a pleasing personality and ready wit, became a popular auctioneer and also engaged in the real estate business, having an office on Main Street for many years. He acquired land (S 12-21-28) and ran a successful farming operation.  He married Mary Henderson in 1887 - the preacher's fee consisting of a pig, whether live or dead is not recorded. Their union was blessed with a family of seven: Roy, Rainie,  Jessie all now deceased; Charles of Russell; Hazel (Mrs. G. W. Davidson) of Russell; Dunc, of Brookdale Man. and Heather, Newdale, Man. There are twenty-two grandchildren.

Mrs. McIntyre was reputed to be the most beautiful girl in the district, and was later known for her benevolence. She was an outstanding cook, and the young people from far and wide liked to visit at her home and partake of the bounteous pies, cakes, and cookies which she loved to dispense, especially to the children.

Her daughter Hazel (Mrs. G. W Davidson) inherited her love for cooking and her hospitality.

An outstanding adventure in Mr. McIntyre's life occurred in the autumn of 1920, when returning home from one of his auction sales, with a large sum of money on his person, he was waylaid and knocked unconscious by a blow on the head. He was only saved from probable fatal injury by the lights of an oncoming car which scared off his assailant.

Adam died at the age of seventy-five in l932, and Mary in 1945 at the age of seventy-nine.
