THE KIPPAN FAMILY - by Mrs. Jas. K ippan (Beryl Sherman)

    In 1882 John Kippan came to Canada, settled in Ontario, and married Janet McNab. They had three sons, Duncan, James and Alexander. The eldest, Duncan, married Catherine Stuart and had seven children. The history of Silver Creek will tell when Duncan, James and Alexander took up farming in that area. Of the seven children born to Duncan Kippan and Catherine Stuart, two died without issue and the others all married and had issue. James Duncan married Margaret Anderson and this couple settled in Russell.

   James Duncan Kippan died at the early age of forty-nine, leaving his widow and four children. Two children, Margaret and Eunice, had died in early infancy. The four remaining were Gordon, Duncan, Jessie and Della. Della became a school teacher and taught throughout the prairie provinces for many years. She finished her teaching in the coal mining area of Alberta at Mercoal. She retired to Winnipeg where she died in 1960. Jessie was a trained nurse. She married Donald R. MacDonald and had one daughter Mary, now married and living in Manitoba. Duncan married Jessie Lawson who came to teach in Russell from Ontario. Duncan and Gordon were well known in the world of sports especially football (soccer) and curling. Duncan lived in Seamans, Saskatchewan where he had an automobile agency. He and his wife had six chilclren. Four daughters are married and two sons were killed in World War II. Duncan Kippan died in 1942. His son Lloyd was killed in 1941, and son Clare was killed in 1944. Both were in the R.C.A.F.  The daughters are Margaret, Helen, Jessie and Patricia. Margaret married O. Ommondsen and has two sons, Frank and Peter. Helen married T. Greyell and has a son Robert and a daughter Donna. Jessie married G. Langdon and has two sons, James and Bruce. Patricia married D. Whitehead and has a daughter Barbara and two sons, Peter and Duncan.

   Gordon Kippan lived all his life in Russell. He married a school teacher, Lena Waddell, from Dominion City. Gordon was associated all his life with the lumber business as related in the business history of Russell. He retired in 1958 and died on Dec. 31, 1963. Mrs. Kippan died on March 15, 1964. They had two children, Jarnes and Isabel.

    James married Beryl Sherman and they have two sons, James W. Kippan and Duncan R. Kippan. This branch of the family make their home in Vancouver.

    Isabelle married Louis Mousseau. They had two children, a daughter, Louise and a SOll, Guy. They make their home in Montreal.
