THE KINNAIRD FAMILY

    David Kinnaird, a widower with two sons and three daughters, came from Dundee, Scotland with his family in the year 1880. His eldest daughter, Margaret, was married to John Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Brown with their two daughters, Margaret and Jane, accompanied the Kinnairds, David Sr., his sons, George and David, Jr., and his youngest daughter Agnes (See Brown Family). on the same boat was James Lawther from Ireland with his family. One son, James, subsequently married Agnes Kinnaird. (See Lawther Family) .

    Mr. Kinnaird homesteaded on the S.W. 1/4 of Sec. 16-21-28, his son-in-law, John Brown, taking the N.E. 1/4 of the same section. Reiffenstein's Survey, dated Sept. 1880, shows, "David Kinnaird, four acres ploughed."

    He was interested in public affairs and became the Chairman of the first board of trustees of Russell School.

    David Kinnaird's eldest daughter Margaret had married John Brown in Scotland. Prior to their sailing for Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Brown had two daughters, Margaret and Jane. In Canada five more children were born Jessie (Mrs. J. M. F. White), Ethel, Dorothy, Jack and Douglas.

   Agnes Kinnaird, the second daughter, was married to James Lawther in 1882. They had four daughters: Alice (Mrs. D. A. Goodbun), Mary, (Mrs Walter Barrett Lennard); Lucia, (Mrs. E. A. de Balinhard); and Elizabeth, (Mrs. C. D. Joslin). Mr. and Mrs. Joslins' only son, Squadron Leader John, "Jock", Joslin, was killed in the Battle of Britain in 1940.

    After the death of her husband, James Lawther, Agnes married Leonard L. Roberts. They had one son, Leslie, and three daughters Maud, (Mrs. Norman J. Bajus); Margaret; and Ethel, (Mrs. A. M. Pratt)|

    George Kinnaird became a Chief Factor in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company. He had three sons and a daughter. Two of the sons, Douglas and Tom, were killed in World War I.  The other son, Ken, became a Chartered Accountant in Edmonton.  His only son, William, was killed in the Second World War.

   David McKay Kinnaird served as Manager of the Dudley, Leese and Scarth Bank in Russell and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Municipality.
