The Rev John Hogg D.D was born in Cromarty, Scotland in 1830, married
May 13, 1857 to Mary Jane Black (born Coleraine, Londonderry, Ireland)
Dr. Hogg came to the west from Toronto about 1878 with a grown family
of six: Annie, Martha, Kenneth, Minnie, Robert and Catherine - and was
pastor in the Binscarth - Silver Creck area until he went to Winnipeg at 1883, where he
was pastor of St. Giles Church. He retired from there about 1905. They
celebrated their golden wedding anniversy in the home of Mr and Mrs. A.G.P Smellie in
Russell in 1907 (See photo). Dr. and Mrs. Hogg retired to Vancouver where he died at
the age of 94, in 1924. Mrs Hogg predeceased him in Winnipeg in 1912.
