The following is a letter from one of our visitors....

Hello, there!

I am the descendant of a couple who came from England close the the beginning of the 1900's to live and farm in Shellmouth, Manitoba.  The dates of their arrival and the duration of their stay in Shellmouth are not too definite.  They were my grandfather and grandmother and their names were
William and Isabella Dixon.  They became friends with several people that I know of in the Shellmouth area, including Ellen Patterson.

My grandfather was a butcher by trade, I believe, but he tried farming.  I also recall from my grandmother's stories that he butchered animals for the neighbouring farmers and took the offal that the farmers didn't want (livers, kidneys, tails, etc.) and fed his family very thriftily with them.
My mother, Gladys Dixon, was born in the Shellmouth area, I believe.

I have some lovely pictures of the area taken during their stay there, including some of the church and school.

Do you know of anyone in the area who could supply me with more information about my grandparents' lives in Shellmouth during that era?  Is there a local history book that I might borrow?  Would there be any information in the library?  Is there an Archives system with records from that time, or any other records kept (newspapers, tax records, etc.) in the area that
would be available for me to peruse?  Could you supply me with the names and phone numbers of any individuals who might help me in my search?

Thank you in anticipation of your help.  My email is pshaw@mb.sympatico.ca;  I live in Carberry, Manitoba, and would be quite willing to travel to Russell and Shellmouth to pursue any leads I might discover.
