JAMES W. CURRIE  by Bernice Currie 1967

James Curie came west from Ayr, Ontario in 1891.  He started in business in Newdale, later moving to Russell in 1898 as an agent for the Massy Harris Co.  The following year he joined the staff of the W. J. Doig Hardware, on which he served for 48 years.

In 1903 Mr. Currie married Marie Madill (see Madill Family).  They had a son, Austin, now living in Medicine Hat, and a daughter, Bernice, now living with her mother in Winnipeg.

Three years after the sale of the W. J. Doig Hardware business in 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Currie went to live in Winnipeg.  Mr. Currie had always been an ardent curler and had taken an active part in the Russell Curling Club of which he was a life member.

Mr. Currie died in 1962.  His wife Marie, celebrated her 88th birthday in January, 1966.
