THE THOMAS MADILL FAMILY

Thomas Madill and John Madill, with their wives and families, arrived in Russell March, 1890, from Thornbury, Ontario.

Thomas and Eliza Madill settled on a farm at Old Hudson Bay Trading Post, 3 1/2miles north of Russell. Their family consisted of five boys and two girls. The eldest son, Havelock, married Florence Lyons, daughter of  J.T. Lyons of Russell. Their family consisted of two boys, Franklin, now of Owen Sound, living with his mother, and Clarence, married and living in Edmonton, father of a son and daughter.

A daughter of Thomas, Lucinda, died in 1900, not married.

John Adam Madill, second son, married Lillian Richardson, daughter of Alex Richardson of Silver Creek. They had four boys and three girls Cecil, of Geneva Park, Illinois, Lavina, of Petersfield, Manitoba, George of Toronto, Ontario, Gladys of Nelson, British Columbia, Walter, of Petersfield, Manitoba, Jack, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; all are married with families. Mrs.Madill is now widowed and living in Petersfield.

Milton Madill of Vancouver, married Effie Lockhart, raising a family of one boy and one girl, Lockhart and Margaret, now residing in Vancouver, after the death of their parents.

Ernest Madil1 married Maud Roberts of Shellmouth, daughter of Alex Roberts. They had three girls, Lula, Noreen and Thelma. All are married, living in Russell and Brandon and Medicine Hat. Ernest is now deceased. His widow is living in Russell.

Harold, youngest son, married Laura McRostie, daughter of Peter McRostie. They had one boy, Laurence, and two daughters, Beryl and Jean. Laura, widowed, is living in Swan River with her son and his family

Hazel, youngest daughter, married James Carson McVey, son of James McVey of Grandview. They had two daughters, Elizabeth and Marilyn. Carson McVey is now deceased and Hazel is living in Toronto. Beth, married to Donald Struthers with four children, Carson, Cynthia, Robert and Margaret, lives in Don Mills. Marilyn, unmarried, lives in Toronto, Ontario.



THE JOHN MADILL FAMILY by Bernice Currie

Mr. and Mrs. John Madill, with two daughters Marie and Jean, came to Russell from Thornbury, Ontario, in April 1898. The minister of the Presbyterian Church in Thornbury was a friend of the minister in Russell and thus Russell was picked as a place to settle in the move to the West. Mr. and Mrs. Madill settled on a farm just north of town. Mr. Madill, as well as farming, carried on his trade as a carpenter. Mrs. Madill, and the two girls, opened a Millinery and dressmaking Shop in the Ledingham Block Mr. and Mrs. Madill later moved to town and lived on Westbourne, Mr. Madill carrying on his trade as a Carpenter

John Madill died in l924, Mrs. Madill in 1927.
