Francis George Eshelby - By Don Eshelby

The Francis George Eshelby Family Photo is the photo of Jim Eshelby's family, taken
when he was very young. The family lived in the Silverton area and had a farm which the
younger George inherited and lived with his wife and five daugthers. Jim Eshelby had a
farm nearby but moved to Russell to work at Central Motors. Jim lived on the McNichol farm
and the DuPre farm before moving to Russell.
The people in the photo from top left to right are: George Eshelby, and Francis George
Eshelby (father); second row l to r is Mary Eshelby (wife and mother) and Esther (Hettie);
in the front row are Jim and Isobel (Bell Claridge).
Jim Eshelby family. This was taken around 1942 or 1943,
prior to the 2nd daughter being born in 1944. Mary Ruth Eshelby was born on December 26,
1944 and is not pictured in this photo.
Other information regarding Francis George Eshelby, father of Jim Eshelby:
The family arrived in Russell on May 16, 1902 from Gloucester England, sailing from
Liverpool to Montreal on April 30. There were two daughters and one son with Frank and his
wife Mary (Rumsey Glasspool). The daughters Esther and Isobel and son George were joined
by another brother James on September 25, 1905. Frank died in 1928 and Mary died in 1934.
Elder daughter Esther married Tom Smith in 1914 and eventually moved to Bodmin, Sask.; Jim
married Ruth Lighfoot in 1935; George married Alice Pratt in 1938 and Isobel (Bel) married
Hugh Claridge in 1938.
Jim and Ruth had five children; Jean, Bob, Frank, Don and Mary Ruth. Jean and husband Andy
Pomo live in Winnipeg, Bob and wife Donelda (Koss) live in Saskatoon, Frank and wife Ruth
(Weir) live in Namaimo, B.C., Don and wife Ivy (Klimack) live in Boise, Idaho, and Mary
and husband Terry (Maychruk) have now moved to Nanaimo, BC.
